Description:
Those 'little grey cells'. Truly mind boggling!
Crammed into your cranium is your brain weighing around 1.4 Kgs and probably the most complex matter in the universe!
Your brain is the hub of your nervous system. It is made up of 100 billion nerve cells. Each cell with 1,000 to 10,000 synapses connects to around 10,000 others making the total number of connections in your brain about 1000 trillion with 300 million feet of wiring all packed inside your skull!
Your brain architecture
Broadly your brain is composed of three main parts.
First, the Neocortex, or Human Brain, is the part of the brain that controls high-level thinking and complex integrative tasks. Other mammals do have this part too, but in much smaller proportion of the whole brain volume.
Second, the Limbic System, or Mammalian Brain is the part that's critical for emotions and for memory.
Thirdly, the Cerebellum and Stem, or Reptilian Brain is the part that regulates basic vital systems such as breathing, heartbeat and motor coordination.
The Neocortex or Human Brain is itself composed of Frontal Lobes for sophisticated brain functions such as planning and conceptualising, the Parietal which deals with movement, the senses, and some forms of recognition, the Temporal for auditory processes and language and the Occipital, the visual processing center.
How your brain works
Your brain is a dynamic 'plastic' system that's constantly developing and changing.
When you were first born, your brain came with most of it's neurons.
At that stage though, many of them would have not yet formed connections to each other.
'Cells that fire together wire together'
When called upon to perform a particular task, pockets of specific neurons fire together.
It's this firing of billions of loosely coupled neurons that give rise to coordinated goal directed behavior.
When you learn things, the messages travel from one neuron to another, over and over. Eventually, your brain starts to create connections or pathways between the neurons, so things become easier and you can do them better and better.
Think back to the first time you rode a bike. Your brain had to think about pedalling, staying balanced, steering with the handlebars, watching the road, and maybe even hitting the brakes - all at once.
Hard work, right? But eventually, as you got more practice, the neurons sent messages back and forth until a pathway was created in your brain.
Now you can ride your bike without thinking about it, because the neurons have successfully created a 'bike' pathway.
The sum of all your individual pathways are often referred to as your 'Cognitive Reserve'.
The more you use your brain for mentally stimulating challenges throughout your life, the larger the 'Cognitive Reserve'.
Exercising your brain
When you exercise your brain, your neurons are stimulated into action and the connections strengthened to give better and faster brain performance.
The more that particular groups of synapses or unions between neurons get used or exercised, the more they get 'bundled' or 'unitised', so the more easily these respective neurons 'talk' to and connect with each other.
The Frontal Lobes, that's the part of your brain right behind the forehead, which controls the executive functions that determines your ability to pay attention, plan for the future and direct behavior toward achieving goals, are critical for adapting to new situations.
This part of the brain is very delicate. Frontal Lobes don't fully mature until our mid to late 20s and they are also the first part of our brain to start to decline, usually by middle age.
We exercise the Frontal Lobes best by learning and mastering new skills and by 'Brain Training'.
How can we maintain our brains for peak performance and health?
There are five pillars of brain health.
A balanced diet, physical exercise, stress management, a positive mental attitude and brain exercises.
Balanced Diet: Did you know that the brain only weighs 2% of body mass, but consumes over 20% of the oxygen and nutrients we intake?
A balanced diet is essential for brain health, in particular the optimum levels of omega3 essential fatty acids.
Physical Exercise: Remember that the brain is part of the body. Things that exercise your body can also help sharpen your brain. Physical exercise enhances neurogenesis.
Stress Management: Stress management is important, since stress, whether induced by external events or by your own thoughts, actually kills neurons and prevents the creation of new ones.
Positive Mental Attitude: Practising positive, future-oriented thoughts until they become your default mindset, so that you look forward to every new day in a constructive way, aiming high, constantly exploring and making up your own mind about things is fundamental to realising the potential of your brain.
Brain Exercises: 'Use it or lose it' doesn't simply mean a couple of stabs at Sudoku.
It's about routinely and regularly challenging your mind.
Lifemax Electronic Brain Trainer
We all start with the same 'grey matter'.
Your brain has unlimited potential. There's no end to what you and your brain can do.
It's up to you to make the best of it and unlock your brain's full potential.
Exercising your brain will sharpen your mind, boost your reasoning skills, your memory and mental processing speed and help stave off mental decline in later years.
It's simple. The more you use and exercise your brain, the better it gets and the more powerful your brain will become!
The LIFEMAX ELECTRONIC BRAIN TRAINER is a compact electronic work out for your brain you can use anytime anywhere!
On the bus or train on your way to work. At home, a few minutes in front of the TV. Waiting in a queue. Anywhere!
Definitive studies show that brain training can hone your intellectual skills and bolster your mind in the same way that physical exercise protects and strengthens the body.
But that's not all.
It's a brilliant instant natural mental stimulator.
Imagine you are feeling groggy and muzzy first thing in the morning.
Even your caffeine fixes can't shake those feelings off and get you fully mentally alert.
But you have a mentally challenging day ahead and you need all your wits about you. It could be a presentation, an interview, some serious negotiating, organising an important function, exams, organising a party of children.
Try a few quiet minutes on your LIFEMAX ELECTRONIC BRAIN TRAINER. A few minutes at breakfast, on the bus or train.
It's relaxing and fun.
But it's also mentally stimulating firing up your 'little grey cells' to sharpen up your mental senses, ready for the day ahead. Gets your mental pathways humming, your neurons networking and your brain charged up and ready to go!
Your mind is now as razor sharp, quick witted, perceptive and penetrating as it gets!
And it's never too late
Studies show that brain training not only improves your brain power, but can also slow mental decline.
And studies also suggest that people who exercise their mental muscles throughout their lives have a 35-40% less risk of manifesting Alzheimers.
